I am full of joy, with wonderful news. I will be co-leading, with Tova Green, this summer’s Queer Dharma Sangha Week at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, SFZC’s retreat center In the Ventana wilderness inland from Big Sur. After a two summer closure because of Covid, Tassajara is gradually reopening to the public.
Our retreat is Tuesday, June 27 – Sunday, July 2, part of Tassajara’s Sangha Week summer program. We will have the pleasure of meditating and working side-by-side with residents in Tassajara’s remote, quiet, gorgeous valley location.
Each day will include meditation, four hours of work, time for meeting as a group for study and discussion, and personal time for hiking, swimming, soaking in the hot springs baths, and eating Tassajara’s incomparable home-baked cookies and delicious meals. Our study theme is “Bringing Your Queer Self to Practice,” and we look forward to exploring this rich topic with you.
The retreat fee is $600, and includes housing and meals. Medical needs related to housing, such as CPAP machines, will be accommodated as much as possible. As of now, we don’t know what, if any, Covid protocols will be in place for summer 2023.
Guests are welcome to drive into Tassajara if they have vehicles equipped to handle a rugged, steeply inclined road. Such vehicles need to be four-wheel-drive, or with chassis suspended high off the road. Tassajara transportation into the valley will be available on a limited basis for those who cannot drive or carpool in, at $75 roundtrip.
